On July 15, the Henrico County Planning Commission held a public hearing on the entire Innsbrook Area Study, voting to recommend its approval to the Board of Supervisors.

Following the meeting, Paul Kreckman, president of the Innsbrook Owners Association, said the action taken by “the Planning Commission is an important step forward in the public process of ensuring the long term competitiveness of Innsbrook as a major employment center for western Henrico County. We appreciate the care and diligence the County has shown in facilitating this growth while protecting the interests of all property owners in the area.”

The Board will hold a public hearing on Sept. 14 to consider adoption of these documents. This hearing will be held in the Board Room at the County Administration Building at Parham and Hungary Spring Roads. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

An updated draft study and other information can be obtained from Henrico County at www.co.henrico.va.us/departments/planning/.

Inc. Magazine has unveiled its 4th Annual exclusive list of America’s fastest-growing private companies in the Inc. 5000. Innsbrook-based Rainbow Station ranks No. 4383 on the 2010 Inc. 5000 with Three-Year Sales Growth of 22%.

The list reportedly contains the most comprehensive look at a critical segment of the U.S. economy--entrepreneurs. Also on the list were music website Pandora, 7-Eleven, and Radio Flyer.

“The leaders of the companies on this year’s Inc. 5000 have figured out how to grow their businesses during the longest recession since the Great Depression,” said Inc. president Bob LaPointe. “The 2010 Inc. 5000 showcases a particularly hardy group of entrepreneurs.”

Rainbow Station is a private school founded by Gail Johnson in the late 1980s that offers emergency back-up care for mildly ill children. Rainbow Station is a franchise with nine campuses in the U.S.

Rainbow Station offers extended day nursery school and preschool programming as well as after-school and summer camp programs for children ages newborn to 14. One of the unique and highly popular features of the school is that it provides an on-site infirmary located in an architecturally separate building on the campus attended by a full-time pediatric nurse so that parents have emergency back-up care when their child is mildly ill.

“The Get Well Place” has a dedicated HVAC system designed to prevent any cross contamination, and is also equipped with a room with reverse ventilation to further prevent the spread of respiratory illness within the infirmary. “The Get Well Place” is open to all children in the community whether or not they are enrolled in the school.

The academic program is equally innovative. “The Village” is a pint-sized village for school-aged children designed for an interactive learning experience based on freedom and choice where students attend curriculum-driven activities in specially recreated versions of an Apothecary, Arcade, Art Gallery, Café Rainbow, Club 5, Gymnasium, Theater, Toy Shoppe and Village Green. The school adheres to the highest standards of quality as set forth by several accrediting bodies. Rainbow Station Schools and applicable accreditations are listed on the website, www.rainbowstation.org.

The 2010 Inc. 5000, unveiled on Inc.com, serves as a unique illustration of the profound changes taking place in the U.S. economy. The Government Services sector showed the biggest gain in terms of the number of companies on the list, up 33 percent from last year to 335 companies. Government Services was also the second-fastest-growing sector in terms of median revenue growth, posting a 202 percent gain over the 2006-2009 measuring period.

More than half of these companies are based in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The fastest-growing sector by median revenue growth was Real Estate, now just a tiny group of 38 young, small companies, which showed 231 percent median growth over the period. (There were 121 Real Estate firms on the inaugural Inc. 5000 in 2007.) Business Products & Services is the top industry by number of companies on the list (640) and total revenue ($80.7 billion), while Health is the biggest by total employment (287,726 jobs).

Despite the fact that most of this year’s measuring period of 2006-2009 took place during the latest recession, aggregate revenue among the companies on the list actually increased to $321.6 billion, up more than 50 percent from last year. The effects of the recession are seen, however, in the median three-year growth rate, which dropped to 96 percent from last year’s 126 percent. This year’s Inc. 5000 employ a record 1.4 million people, up from one million on last year’s list.

Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found on www.inc.com/5000.

Sarah and Ross Merritt met while working for Ken Thers, founder of The Place, in the Innsbrook Shoppes. “I was 16 and began working there washing dishes,” Sarah said. “Ross worked at Expressions, Ken’s restaurant at the Cultural Arts Center.” Over time, the couple met and fell in love.

When Ken decided to retire this year, he didn’t want just anyone assuming the reigns of his baby. So, he offered The Place to Sarah and Ross.’

“We’ve worked for Ken for 10 years. I met my husband at The Place, we were married at The Place and now we own it. It’s been a dream come true.”

Sarah noted that The Place will continue offering all of its great banquet and special event services. “We will be doing some sprucing up here and there, but our customers can be assured that they will continue to get the same wonderful experience they’ve come to expect from The Place.”

The stress of information overload comes from the unrealistic expectation that we can keep up with it all and process it all, while being constantly interrupted by phone calls, texts, and more information,” says Dr. Linda Bugbee, psychiatrist and certified yoga instructor, in Innsbrook.

“Trying to do too much, our minds race at 100 mph trying to keep up. But we aren’t built to go 100 mph all the time.

One way to reduce the stress? Give your mind a break. Turn off your phone, get away from your computer and go somewhere for an hour where you can just be you, uninterrupted. That could be in a yoga class, a massage, a walk in the park, or taking time in quiet prayer or meditation. Let your mind reset so that when you come back, you are more focused and can actually process some of the information.”

Dr. Bugbee offers Innsbrook Yoga classes on Wednesdays and Fridays 12:15 - 1 pm in the Highwoods Centre Building at 4101 Cox Rd, Suite 120. Classes are on a “drop in” basis and the class averages from 2 to 12 students.

Class emphasis is on stress reduction rather than getting a tough workout. People usually feel relaxed and refreshed when they leave, Dr. Bugbee said. Classes offer changing rooms and all the equipment needed to participate.
