Since opening its Innsbrook Donor Center 15 years ago in the Innsbrook Shoppes, Virginia Blood Services has drawn several thousand gallons of blood. The success of the nonprofit organization is due primarily to the generous and consistent support over the years by Innsbrook businesses.

Each of these Innsbrook companies hold at least four blood drives per year. Dominion and Markel each hold six blood drives.

VBS, founded in 1974, is a private, nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation. It is the sole supplier to 21 hospitals in Richmond, Petersburg, Hopewell, Charlottesville, the Staunton/Waynesboro area, Harrisonburg, South Hill, Emporia and Farmville. To meet the needs of patients in the hospitals they serve, VBS must collect more than 400 units of blood each day.

“Our goal is not only to serve our patients, but to also provide convenience for our donors. The location at Innsbrook is conveniently sited, has great visibility, and
is closer to our donors who are west of Richmond,” said Chris Smith, Director of Donor Recruitment at VBS.

The Innsbrook Donor Center is one of eight locations throughout Richmond and central Virginia. Choosing the area has helped VBS fulfill its mission to inspire the community to provide a safe and reliable blood supply for the patients they serve. With opening the center in Innsbrook, the goal was to raise awareness of the role VBS plays in the community and to educate that same community about the need for regular blood donations. This center does exactly that and sees almost 6,000 donations each year.

The center is located in the Shoppes at Innsbrook at 4040-A Cox Road (facing Dominion Boulevard). VBS donors know and appreciate that they can save the lives of up to three patients locally by donating blood.
